Due date and week-by-week milestones from the mating date.
Why the due date is a window, not a day
The 63 days are counted from ovulation, not mating. Sperm can survive in the female for several days and eggs need time to mature, so counted from the mating date a normal pregnancy lasts anywhere from about 58 to 68 days. If your dog was mated more than once, use the first date.
Signs labour is close
In the last week, take her rectal temperature twice a day. A drop below about 99°F (37.2°C) usually means puppies within 24 hours. Nesting, panting, restlessness and refusing food are also common. Read our full guide to dog pregnancy.
